Some of my favorite Fiction

I love reading historical novels, documentaries, biographies, etc., but because I am writing a fiction genre book, I will only list books that fall into that category.

This book really pulled at my heart.  A father's struggle to keep his son alive is something I could relate to.  I have two sons and I am always worrying about them.  If you like a personal and heart wrenching survival drama, read this book.  Cormac McCarthy lives about an hour drive from me.  I would love to be able to meet him someday.

This is the first book that I read from this type of genre.  I loved it!!!  This is the book that made me want to write a book in the same genre.  The book is the first in a series, but so far, I think it is the best of the series.  The story is about normal people trying to survive in times of change.  Most die off, but the smart and lucky ones survive.  Another great survival story.  S. M. Stirling also lives about an hour drive from me.  Maybe I could get him and Cormac together in a room at once.  :)

I thought this book was amazing because of the visuals the text gave me.  I always visualize every story I read, but this one gave me surreal and beautiful settings.  I've been waiting for his next novel for a while now.  Charles Frazier is also the author of Cold Mountain.

Another great outdoor adventure book.  Just about anything from Gary Paulsen is great.  He is one of my favorite authors.  I like to use his books with my kids in the classroom.  Usually boys go for his books, but I've seen girls read them also.  Unless, you make them all read it!!!!  Gary Paulsen has one of the best websites I've ever seen.  Great for teachers!  Gary Paulsen, like Cormac McCarthy and S. M. Stirling, lives in New Mexico.  The fact that three of my favorite authors live in New Mexico is a coincidence, but a weird one at that.  Maybe, I could get all three of them in the same room.   :)

Classic book that never gets out of touch with the kids.  I loved this book when I was in elementary school and used it this past year with my fifth graders.  I would read a section of the book at the end of the day and it seemed the only time I had all of their complete attention.

You can probably tell that I love the books that I read when I was younger.  Not only did I read them when I was younger, but it's great to be able to use them in the classroom.  If you like this book, there are a couple more to the series.

I read this book when the newer movie came out.  I love reading books before I see the movie.  I like to see how accurate my visuals are compared to the movie.  The book, as always, was much better.  I especially loved the ending in the novel much better than the movie.

I found this book to be much better than I thought it would.  My wife and I, then my girlfriend, read this together.  The fact that we read it to each other made this one of my favorite reading experiences.  We've done this with a few books and wish we did it more often.  I thought the movie was one of the better ones that I've seen, after reading the book.
